Research
The aquatic and non-cropland
weed program strives to develop economically and environmentally sustainable
weed management systems. In addition to evaluating reduced-risk herbicides, this research program focuses on control
measures for specific invasive plants and noxious weeds, the biology and
physiology of invasive plants, and biological control measures for these
problematic species. Field research is conducted throughout North Carolina and at NCSU facilities.
Extension
The extension component of
the aquatic and non-cropland weed program develops training programs for
extension agents, site managers, and the general public. Representatives of the program participate in
numerous educational meetings each year.
Dr. Richardson is
responsible for North Carolina's
weed management recommendations for aquatic and non-cropland sites. These
recommendations are found in the North Carolina Agricultural Chemicals Manual
and selected extension publications.
GRADUATE EDUCATION
Dr. Richardson is an
associate member of the graduate faculty and is actively involved in graduate
student education. He serves as major advisor to M.S. and Ph.D. students and
