Southern Chinch Bugs in St. Augustinegrass

August 15, 2011

Hot, dry summers are perfect for southern chinch bugs in St. Augustinegrass. Obviously the past two years have been banner years for this pest. They are everywhere in St. Aug and even in zoysiagrass in a few areas. They will hang around until we start getting cooler nights. While their activity drops off with cooler temperatures, it is a good idea to avoid letting them stress the turfgrass going into the winter.
