Species Data


Shorelines of lakes, ponds, and wet areas throughout the eastern U.S. A good food source for wildlife, as the seeds are eaten by ducks and the rhizomes by muskrats.


Erect, lanceolate to heart shaped, and basally attached by long petioles.


Showy and purple. Borne on upright stems from May through October.
