Examples of Herbicide Products Available for Homeowner Use

The following lists include some commonly available products which selectively control growing broadleaf and/or brass weeds in home lawns. The lists are broken down into products which control broadleaf weeds, brush and vines such as poison ivy and kudzu, moss, and grassy weeds in lawns and ornamentals after they emerge, and grassy weeds in lawns before they germinate and emerge.

This listing of products is an attempt to aid the homeowner in selecting an appropriate turf herbicide. The list was created from a survey of products found on shelves of stores featuring home and garden products in six North Carolina counties. On product labels, the herbicide will be listed as a particular form of the chemical. For example, 2,4-D may be indicated as the dimethylamine salt of 2,4,-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid.
