2008 Cool-Season Recommended Variety List for North Carolina

National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) Trials: Tall Fescue

The 2006 NTEP Tall Fescue trial was planted on October 4th, 2006 and contains 113 varieties of tall fescue. Monthly data collection on these varieties began during the establishment period and will continue through 2011. Variety recommendations on this list are based on the compilation of monthly data through July 2008. Data will continue to be taken on this trial and the recommended variety list will be updated accordingly.

Management

  • Mowing height: 2.0-3.0”
  • Fertilization: 3 to 5 lbs N/1000ft2/year
  • Irrigation: To prevent visual drought stress
  • Herbicide/Insecticide/Fungicide use: To prevent turfgrass loss in severe situations

Data will continue to be taken on this trial and the recommended variety list will be updated accordingly.
