Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in golf course maintenance and operation.
Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety standards associated with grounds maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of turf maintenance including types of soils, grasses, and pesticide and herbicide applications.
Some knowledge of the application of information technology to the work.
Skill in the operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and tools.
Ability to assign and lead the work of other employees and to train them in proper work and safety methods and procedures.
Ability to trouble-shoot turf management and repair problems and take effective remediation actions.

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate tractors, and other mechanical equipment to read chemical and other manuals, and to maintain records.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from a technical or community college with a degree in turf management or closely related area and some experience in turf management work; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Possession of a Public Operators Turf and Ornamental Pesticide License.
Possession of a valid North Carolina's Driver’s License.

Degree from a two or four-year college in turf management or 5 years of experience on the job training is preferred. Individual must possess or obtain a NC Pesticide License within 6 months of job acceptance. Individual must be personable, professional, courteous, organized and attention to detail are all important. This individual should and will work in a team environment and adapt well as being a team player among other landscape and turf technicians. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in extreme weather conditions and follow all rules within the company safety and operational handbook. Applicant must be a legal US Citizen and possess a valid NC driver’s license with a clean driving record. Pre-employment drug-testing, post-employment random drug testing (clean sweeps), criminal background checks and driving record will all be conducted and reviewed prior to any job offer.

Gardiner’s Bay Country Club is looking for applicants with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Someone who is motivated and focused on building a strong skill set to further their career in the turf management industry. The second assistant will be relied upon to/for effectively run small crews, apply chemical applications, course setup for tournament and weekly play, hand watering that coincides with championship playing conditions, and house project management. The applicant must obtain NY pesticide license.
This is an entry level management position with the emphasis on growth and development in the golf course industry. The individual will work closely with the superintendent and the assistants to meet the expectations of a demanding membership. The position will provide the right individual with the fundamental tools and understanding required to be a first assistant. The second assistant will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of golf course maintenance and management practices.
