Turf Program Pioneer Carl Blake Passes Away

— Written By Kaki Carl

Carl Blake

Dr. Blake helped establish the turf program at NC State University; his career included a professorship at NC State University and working in the Extension Agronomy as a forage crops and turf grass specialist. After helping establish the turf grass program, he assumed responsibility for it in 1970. Because of his distinguished service to North Carolina, Dr. Blake was honored and recognized with many awards. His organizational talents and initiative were instrumental in the establishment of turf grass associations in North Carolina and also the Turf Grass Council of North Carolina. Our condolences go to his nephew, Matt Martin, of the Crop and Soil Sciences turf program.
