Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at James River Course of the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond, VA
The Country Club of Virginia is looking for a talented Assistant Superintendent for its James River Golf Course. CCV is a full-service private club located in Richmond, Virginia, and is perpetually recognized as one of the top clubs in America as a result of its remarkable membership, world-class facilities, and exceptional staff.
The club’s 7,600+ members support 1,111 acres containing two superb clubhouses situated seven miles apart, 54 holes of golf, racquet sports, fitness, aquatics, and multiple dining outlets and special event venues. Course: The James River course features bermudagrass fairways, tees, and rough. Greens were recently converted to 777 bentgrass with opening scheduled for May of 2019. A new state of the art Toro irrigation system was installed in 2019. Construction is currently underway at its sister course, Tuckahoe Creek, to create an exceptional practice area and Golf Performance Center. The James River Course annually hosts the PGA TOUR Champions Dominion Energy Charity Classic golf tournament. The DECC has received the Player’s Award 3 of the last 4 years. This award recognizes the best tournament on tour voted on by the players.
Position: The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with Director of Golf and Grounds Maintenance, Course Superintendent, and other managers to ensure member expectations are met daily. The individual will be expected to contribute to planning, executing projects, budgeting, implementing cultural practices, moisture management, pesticide applications, and managing a staff of 24 in season. Our goal at CCV is to provide an environment conducive to learning, while providing work-life balance. CCV has a history of promoting from within; our three current Superintendents began as Assistant Superintendents. Ideal candidates will have strong leadership skills, a college degree, and minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in the transition zone. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Current pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days required. Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
