Interns at Northmoor Country Club on the North Shore of Chicago are involved in every phase of the golf course operation. They are allowed to gain increased responsibilities as their skill sets allow. They attend Green Committee meetings, local superintendent meetings, learn about golf shop operation and spend time with the irrigation tech and equipment manager. They are involved in preparing both capital and operating budgets. Interns spend time during the day with the director of golf course operations on the course and in the office to observe the business side of the profession and meet industry professionals. Internship at NCC provides the student with a realistic view of the industry and helps prepare them for success.

Educational Requirements:

Currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in a 2-4 year turf management program.

Experience Requirements:

Some experience is preferred, but willing to train the right individual.

Special Requirements:

Looking for individuals who possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and are a self-starter. The individual must be willing to learn and accepting of challenges.

Comments:

Northmoor is an upper-end private, 27-hole facility located in Chicago’s golf rich North Shore. The club was founded in 1918 and built by famed golf course architect Donald Ross. 18 of the 27 holes been renovated by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, with the third nine to be renovated in coming years. A major renovation of the white nine course is scheduled for 2021. The management staff is totally committed to sharing their experience with the young men and women who join the team, offering the student intern a tremendous opportunity to be exposed to ALL phases of the turf industry. The student will receive training and exposure to the golf course management operation far beyond doing the same and repetitious tasks each day opportunity to work with a staff that is both nationally and internationally networked that is willing to help with job placement after leaving NCC.

Those seeking an AIT position, with proper experience, can have the opportunity to be a Section Manager of one of NCC’s  three nines. This offers the opportunity for developing valued supervision, team building, communication and hands-on agronomic skills.

AITs and Interns will be exposed to all facets of golf course maintenance, assisting in the mixing and proper application of chemicals, learning how to schedule, maintain, and repair irrigation. There is the opportunity to be involved in both the operating and capital budget process. The intern can be expected to lead small crews and participate in a number of in-house projects.

Date Available: 

January 1 and anytime throughout the year. Both part-time and full-time positions available.

Salary Range:

$12 – $16 /hour plus time and a half overtime.
