There is little question, the cool spring has been a challenge for warm-season grasses. They have been slow to green up and get in their summer growth pattern. Now, on top of all of the warm-season woes, we are finding some winter injury on Bermudagrass. North-facing slopes, shade lines, wet soils, and traffic patterns (compaction) are all contributing factors. This injury is likely due to premature green-up in February followed by hard frosts in late March. It is also noteworthy that the bermudagrass is not dead, but it require 4-6 weeks of hot weather for recovery.
