Moles are very active right now. Although moles do feed on grubs and other insects, it is more likely that the moles are feeding on earthworms, which are their major food source. It would probably be worthwhile to do a little digging to determine if you have grubs, but we do not recommend treating for grubs at this time of year. No products are labeled for the control of earthworms.

Trapping is the only legal method for controlling moles in North Carolina, and there is a legal requirement to get a wildlife depredation permit to do the trapping. The permit is available for free from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Traps are very effective when used correctly, and give good results if you follow the directions that come with the trap.
