Advancing Knowledge Through Turfgrass Center Research – Leon

Naturalized areas are more difficult to chemically treat due to the potential damage from ground equipment. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may offer an answer to the precision management of these areas without using ground equipment. The UAV sprayers can spray areas that are difficult to access with ground-based sprayers either due to irregular topography or presence of physical barriers such as trees or water bodies. Dr. Ramon Leon is currently studying the use of UAV sprayers for weed control on sod farms and naturalized areas. For more information contact: Ramon Leon (rleon@ncsu.edu).
